I saw this fellow speak on TV and he is quite intelligent but at the same time has about a second-grader`s grasp of definitions and issues.

It is David Neiwert who lacks the higher education. In American definitions of left and right, the discerning qualification is the emphasis of government intervention or involvement in the personal affairs of the people. At the far left of the spectrum is totalitarianism and at the far right is anarchy. In political science textbooks that discuss this, fascism is always labeled as a leftist ideology. Jonah Goldsberg isn't telling older and educated political scientists anything they don't already know. His purpose is to discredit leftists who use labels rather than argument to debate.
