Posted By Radiofreeeuropa 11 months ago in Arts & EntertainmentGreenwald identifies the victims of the Bush presidency, the harm they have suffered, and how that harm continues to be inflicted. He discusses the accomplices who made it possible for a president with no electoral mandate to use irrational, and now seriously diminished, support he gained from the events of 9/11 to do so much damage.

According to Greenwald's book Bush's accomplices include compliant and co-opted journalists; neocon pseudointellectuals like Victor Davis Hanson, who draw questionable lessons from history; members of Congress who favor career interests over the country; and uninformed, frightened, and polarized voters who are mostly unaffected by what happens to, and what is being done by, our all-volunteer Army and contract mercenaries far, far away.
A Tragic Legacy covered in detail.

What scares me most are the "uninformed, frightened, and polarized voters". Just peek into some right wing submissions here on Propeller and you can see how strange, disconcerting, and simplistic the rhetoric has become. We need to make sure that the Neocons stay out of our political affairs in the future. My concern is that we'll have a Republican nominee for president who will continue to push the same buttons and will secure the votes of enough unenlightened supporters that he will gain office. Sadly, the destruction that the Bush tenure has wreaked would continue. I hope that many here will read this review as it is a great submission. It exposes the fallacies of the Bush regime's "logic". Good find, Ben.

I understand the Liberals concern for the terrorist we are fighting and how we should treat them nicely. It's very easy to criticize. But I've always had the question, what is the Liberals answer to Iran? What would they do in the Middle East to help stop the growing threat of Islamic Extremists?
We can sit here and talk all day about how bad Bush is but what is the answer to fixing the problem? That is the book I would like to read from a Liberal or Conservative. Like I said before, you can criticize all you want but what is the plan to make changes.
I just returned from the Philippines and they are a country that has no connection to our war in Iraq or American supremacy. However, they have an ongoing war in their country against Abu Sayef, a terror group funded by Al Quaeda. How can a country that basically keeps to itself be a victim of Terrorism? My point is that terrorism is real. What is the Liberal answer for it?

One of the most common and prominent features of Bush and everyone who supports him is the rampant use of reverse logic.
All men are mortal
Socrates was a man, therefore,
All men are Socrates
As stupid as it sounds written like this if you will analyze their thought patterns you see constant, delusional, use of reverse logic.

I look forward to the day when the damage that King George, "the Great Decider", has done to our country will be completely reversed. I hope I am still alive to see it.
The American people better wake up and see that the writing on the wall isn't red paint.

Yeah, the question is how long will it take for the "stench" of this administration to leave after they're voted out. And, yes, it probably will not be in n2n's lifetime. She's ancient! :-)

We'll never know, will we? However, I don't think any other president would have been taunting the Middle East with statements like "Bring 'em on!". At the very least, we could have someone in the presidency with a little intelligence and at least some military background. Instead, we got a cheerleader who DESERTED THE MILITARY.

Another good post RFE!
It is sad that we live in a world that would rather believe the lies perpetuated by Bush, Cheney, a weak Congress, our own military, and the entertainment media (I'll no longer call them news reporters as they stop doing that years ago)than the truth. As Jack Nicholson said, "You can't handle the truth!" and for the most part he was correct. The majority of the American public doesn't want to believe that we're not the good guys saving the day again. Reality has nothing to do with the world we live in now as we are told to not trust our eyes, but only trust what comes from the mouths of Bush and his propagandist machine.
I am sickened beyond belief and don't know that I can handle the truth much longer. I feel like I'm on the Moon shouting into the dark and everything that is happening is so far removed from me and out of control. Very depressing.

...saving the day again? We need to know how much we have messed up the rest of the world in the past, acknowledge it, and then correct our behavior. This is why OBL recommends Blum's book, Rogue State, detailing all our worldwide, Un-democratic interference like Iran Contra. Dumya's foreign policy has only further validated the premise of Rogue State! We get upset with German and Japanese revisionist WWII history - why not ourselves?

donald51,
"...saving the day again?"
It seems to me, by your comments, that you either misunderstood what I was saying or that you are taking my words out of context.
The full quote says, "The majority of the American public doesn't want to believe that we're not the good guys saving the day again." Meaning...we are NOT saving the day by our actions, but are being told the opposite by this neocon administration. Many of the less savvy masses, on geopolitical matters, don't know any better than to believe these neocons propagandists.
I am totally against revisionists and want to see huge doses of reality spread liberally amongst the people. Only through exposing the lies and bringing the masses back into the loop will we be able to move forward with any confidence.

Boy am I going to get flamed for this.
After watching the uninformed debates I* have a question. Just what makes anyone believe that the change espoused by both parties will be any better than the one we are suffering through?
The Republicans- the so called front runners- will keep running down the same road we are on now. The only one who is different-Ron Paul- is a long shot and isn't given the time to explain just how he would accomplish where he would take this country. I like Mr. Paul and support him but I would love to hear in detail what he would do.
The Democrats- again the front runners- just want the power of the presidency for their own devices and again the ones making some kind of sense are not given any time, or very little to explain their views. Shrillery is an shill and won't change anything. Biden, Richardson, Dennis K. like Paul have to remind people like Blizter that they are on the stage too.
We need real debates not the circus we are getting.

No flames from me Ghost. The loser in the debates has been the American electorate. The media in none too subtle ways has decided who they will promote. Ron Paul is the ONLY legit candidate on the right yet he is constantly marginalized in the media as a loser despite fairly widespread bipartisan support in the general public. The notion that anything valuable is gleaned from 30 second sound bytes is erroneous at best. PBS or NPR is probably the only media that can host political debates effectively. The questions so far are mostly fluff and general spin. I sincerely hope all Americans will vote en mases in the primary AGAINST the candidates who have lined their war chests with corporate sponsors. At this time Romney leads in corporate sponsorship with both Clinton and Rudy vieing for 2nd place. If you think Pfizer, Exxon, Rupert Murdoch, Blackwater, and Haliburton should be deciding the course of the future vote for these candidates. I recommend looking elsewhere.

Radio, please give me some examples of the Dems in the past doing the likes of what we have seen from the Repugs? Hastert went to a 3 day week because big business was writing the laws of the lands. CSPAN broadcast of the Medicare Prescription Bill even brought out that the Repugs would close down a sesion on the bill's preparation if a Dem showed up - and the Repugs never even denied it! All those sole source, no audit contracts/earmarks either put in by the Congress or Dumya. This is why Kerry originally disagreed with the 87 billion first Iraq Supplemental that he is accused of flip flopping on - his support was for a comparable bill that had accountability! Hastert did nothing on ethics changes as a result of the Abramoff scandal which was primarily a Repug affair! The Dems have at least tried to ID the earmarks to the legislator. 7 years of Repug inspired investigaions of Bill Clinton produce any comparable Bill Clinton charges for which you now accuse all the Dems?

You speak many things that are true.
This is exactly why campaign finance reform is such a critical issue for our times. Right now, all these morons can buy their tickets.
Another thing: our pathetic voter turnout. Did you know that by law every citizen has to vote on election day in some nations (eg Australia) and will be fined or imprisoned if they do not?
More we (US) can learn if we get our bloody heads out of our 40-90 hour workweeks and health care bills.

Shrillery? Is that all you can come up with? Any dem is an improvement on where we have gone the last 7 years.
The Dems have tried in Congress in spite of 49 Repugs and Joe Liberman holding them back in the Senate.
How can you characterize Hillary without any facts - you are demogoging as bad a Fox (the bi--tch quetion to McCain the other day bing another example). Did Bill Clinton so abuse his power or have you forgotten that he left office with a 65% approval rating? Did Bill seek consensus from NATO Russia and China before going into Kosovo - he sure did! When did Bill throw out 600 years of western law and parts of the Constitution? All the Dems wanted a 911 Commision - Dumya didn't. (continued)

(continuation) Bill had an exective order for a commitee for crisis management that would have saved Dumya and the country from many debacles like Iraq and Katrina! Come on, Faux Fox facts likes to say Hillary is guilty by association to seven years of investigation of her husband that only produced an illicit affair. And, Hillary still stuck by her man in spite of it all!

No I could come up with a whole dictionary but chose what would be allowed by propeller. Now if you believe that SHRILLERY would be a good President, then you are suffering a delusion. Simple to check her record while in the senate. Nothing this bi-tch says is good for American. I will give you one such example. Her health care will give every new born child $5,000.00. Now this nation i8s over $9,000,000,000.00 in the red. Where's this gift to newborns going to come from? She is in the pockets of corporate swine and a look at her contributions will make you sick. That is unless you really believe that dishwashers making minimum wage and living in NEW York where the rent starts at $1000.00 a month can fork over $1500.00 for her campaign when most can't write, nor speak the English language.

She won't bring the troops home until 2013. That straight from her mouth. That means she expects to be in office for 8 years dummy.
You are a perfect example of why she shouldn't be anything remotely close to a button and she supports bombing Iran with nukes. Sweet Jesus you are really out of touch.
It's people like you-who vote for anyone- without checking what they have done, or what they will do. Do some research before you vote.

I would love to see the neocons win the next 4 years and have to wipe up the plethora of fecal matter they have smattered all over: our economy, the middle east and the gushing blood of US troops.
I want to see what they can do to stop this...sadly, probably they will probably try to sink our once great nation even further by perpetuating it to extend into Iran. With all the endos of the nation right behind them.

Prior to our ego-driven invasion of Iraq , Iraq was the buffer between Iran & the rest of the ME -they fought a war for over 10 years to a standstill - Our invasion of Iraq has created the turmoil Iran needs to take over Iraq.
Unfourtunately, that is what will happen if we fully withdraw our troops. Iraq will fall into deeper civil turmoil & Iran, a potential atomic power will easily take over George Bushwhacker has put us in an untenable position from which full withdrawal would be a disaster

Watching Hillary and Rudy rocket to the top of the polls I fear that little has changed since the election of 2000. The corporate owned media still tell the sheeple what to think. Wolf Blitzer's sordid performance and the pre-coached Hillary or bust audience in this past week's CNN Nevada debate are prime examples.
Hillary and Rudy both represent the Neocon lust for endless war. If either is elected, that's exactly what we will get. The public claims in every poll to want change. 70% say they want out of Iraq. Yet Hillary and Rudy are planning to be there for the next 5 years and both want to drag Iran into the battle. We may have a very long time to wait before the Bush legacy of lunacy is over and done.
