It never ceases to amaze me that some would consider a book about gay penguins to be offensive. As if any story (fiction or nonfiction) which mentions being gay anywhere in nature, is unacceptable. The two penguins raised an otherwise abandoned chick, from hatch to adolescence. Penguins are amazing creatures who will protect their young at all costs. We humans could learn a lesson from them.

I agree, David. But some of our human race can't learn from anyone nor anything. As you mentioned on another thread, some are still "dragging their proverbial knuckles". Sad.

It's unfortunate that some miss the point of this story. But then their point isn't what's true, or even what's right. Some people have preconceived notions, and nothing will deter that.

Yes!!! How dare anyone tell a true story about what an animal did? Disgusting. These Penguins should turn their backs on the abandoned children and confine their male/male encounters to public restrooms like any other good Republican.

This is the same crowd who've tried for years to censor mainstream movies and TV as well, my dear!
Their idea of "family entertainment" is ancient mythological shows like "Father Knows Best", "Leave it to Beaver", "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", ad nauseum...
The bigots remind me of the character Toby Maguire played in the film "Pleasantville" and learned how dull and boring life is when reduced to pablum.
I really feel sorry for those whose world is threatened by ther mere existence of people different from themselves, then destroy their child's life by trying to "protect" them people like us, when in fact it's the predators in their own faith communities which are the *real* threat!

Nah... because in the play, movie, and TV series both Felix's and Oscar's heterosexuality is blatantly mentioned repeatedly.
They'd have a fit if the series "Bosom Buddies" was brought back -- that you can count on!!

well, since there are actual gay penguins...
back in 2004, a research group from Rikkyo University in Tokyo found about 20 same-sex pairs at 16 major aquariums and zoos in Japan.
those gay penguins obviously didn't read their bibles, because in the bible it says that homo-penguin-sexuality is an abomination. at least thats what my pastor told us. he says all gay penguins are going to hell. and this was just last week, right before he went to san francisco on vacation.
and still, the anti-gay penguins are being very tolerant and have yet to make a flap about it.

God forbid that children raised by same sex couples have anything positive to help them deal with the way they are viewed by society. Better to let them suffer through without anything positive in their lives.
Also, Heaven forbid that children raised by straight couples have any understanding of something different from how they are raised. We wouldn't want them to become compassionate or anything. That would be terrible, wouldn't it.
I am shocked. I wish I had kids so that I could teach them to hate too!

I know your kidding but you shush your mouth, hamy! I don't think you would EVER teach your kids to hate so do NOT even say it. Some people on here don't get the obvious sarcasm like us others do. I've made the same mistake before and been called out on it.
Don't front like that, even if you're frustrated. Makes me really sad, is all, sorry.

I am sorry Puffy. I would never do that. It was a joke. I promise not to encourage them again.
I had a wonderful time in Canada, by the way, and it was great to get out of the way of those storms for a while.
I will be more careful. Besides, I agree with Kathy Griffin that kids are too selfish. When a 6 month old asks me how my day was, I will gladly accept children as less needy.
Joking again.
